About Black Nurses Rock...

Black Nurses Rock Inc. was founded in 2014. BNR's launch was heard throughout the nation, igniting a movement in Black Nurses Nationwide. Black Nurses Rock is an organization with a focus to foster a positive environment of professional growth and development. We provide mentorship and support to nurses in an effort to elevate the profession and improve our communities by focusing on reducing and eliminating healthcare disparities. Black Nurses Rock is the largest minority nursing association in the country, representing over 174,000 African American nurses and students from the USA , Canada, Eastern Caribbean, Japan, and Germany. 

Mission Statement

The mission of the DMV Chapter is to assist our members with professional maturation while addressing healthcare disparities within the District of Columbia. We are committed to making a difference because our chapter members are empowered, engaged, and ready to embrace the needs of the community.

  • Perina Gaines, President/CEO

    Perina has been a registered nurse for over twenty years. Perina is presently employed as a Psychiatric II Nurse at the DC Department of Behavorial Health. A strong advocate for health equity and high stakeholders to improve health disparities in the communities that have been disproportionately impacted due to the social determinants of health. Her tireless dedication to the profession will empower and inspire future nurses.

  • Rochelle Mitchell, Vice President

    Rochelle has worked in long term care for many years. During that time she mastered primary and preventive care to manage acute and chronic conditions of the elderly. Rochelle is a Clinical Reimbursement Specialist for Promedica Bethesda. In her spare time she loves line dancing.

  • Lisa Brace, Treasurer

    Lisa obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Rutgers University. Later she attended Morgan State University to obtain a Masters of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Education. She has worked at Morgan State University, Georgetown University and currently is a clinical instructor at Howard University, College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences in Washington, DC. Mrs. Brace is also a Consultant Director of Nursing for a residental provider in Washington, DC that supports adults with intellectual disabilities. During her "downtime" she enjoys spending time with her family and watching sports events.

  • Marqueta Taylor, Secretary

    With over 20 years of nursing experience, Marqueta currently works as an Occupational Health Nurse for the Federal Government in Washington, DC. Since Covid, Marqueta has taken up the hobby of gardening. She is a proud phytomanic and plant mom to over 68 plants and counting.

  • Alana A. Askew

    Alana currently works full-time as a psychiatric nurse and PRN as a forensic nurse examiner. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering. Her goal is to continuously make a positive change in her community. For fun she loves shopping, spending time with loved ones and dancing.

HOW TO JOIN

Nurses and nursing students interested in joining , please visit www.blacknursesrock.net and click on the "MEMBERSHIP " Tab. National membership dues are $100.00 annually. Once you have joined the national foundation, please forward proof of membership receipt to bnrdmvchapter@gmail.com. Then you will submit $40.00 local annual dues via cash app: $dmvbnr or Paypal : bnrdmvchapter@gmail.com. Once you have paid the local dues you will be added to ourmembers-only social network platform and official chapter rooster! We are excited to have you join our team.
